This is my precious, precious pile of Mendocino fabrics. I wish I could figure out what to do with them, but whenever I search for pictures of quilts people have made with this fabric, mostly I get to feeling like they've wasted what they had. (What a horrible attitude! I think I've seen too many quilts the chop up the mermaids into unrecognizable bits. But at least they've made something, whereas all I've done is horde mine up. (I did use some in this purple quilt top. And I have a Future Project in the works which will use the brown w\ orange seahorses print.)
This is what I have (plus a charm square or two of every print), starting from the top left :
Seahorses - Gold w\ Blue - 1 YD
Seahorses - Pink w\ Gold - 1 FQ

Presentation Mermaid - Gold - 1 FQ
Presentation Mermaid - Aqua - 1 FE
Fishes - Copper/Orange - 1 FE, 1 FQ
Fishes - Orange/Blue - 2 FE, 1 FQ
Fishes - Gold/Pink - 1 FQ
Kelp - Brown - 1 FQ
Kelp - Blush - 1 FQ
Octopus - Brown w\ Orange - 1 FE, 3/4 YD

Large Octopus - Brown - 3/4 YD
Large Octopus - Aqua - 1 FE, 1 FQ
Large Octopus - Fushia - 1 FQ
Large Octopus - Blush - 4.5" x WOF, 2 FQ
Large Octopus - Yellow - 1 FE, 1 FQ
Large Octopus - Copper - 1 FQ
Large Octopus - Gold - 7" x 10" scrap
Underwater Sister - White w\ Blue - 1 FQ
Underwater Sister - Gold - 1/2 YD
Underwater Sister - Brown - 1 FE, 2 FQ
I would very much love to have larger amounts of the Aqua Underwater Sisters, Aqua Presentation Mermaids, and the Large Gold Octopus. Alas, I am not willing to pay the eleventy-billion dollars people are charging for the aquas. And I've never even seen the Gold octopus fabric for sale. (I've stopped looking though. I don't need the temptation, considering how much money this stuff goes for now.)
If anyone has an FQ of any of those three fabrics that they'd like to trade for anything I have MORE than 1 FQ of, I'd love to work something out. (I'm aware that I'm looking for the rarest of the rare, so I wouldn't ask for a straight 1:1 trade.)
An on-going account of my love affair with fabric and my inability to do much of anything with it.

What about a variation on 'oh fransson's new wave quilt? that would work with the sea theme... :)
ReplyDeleteI have thought about that, but somehow I feel like it needs something more flowy looking than that. Maybe I should learn to piece curves. Did you see that doll quilt that someone made - I forget what blog it was in - that was a scene of an ocean with boats made out of newspapers and there were mountains in the background and mermaids in the ocean... that was gorgeous, and it makes me want to do something with that kind of motion to it. (Though I don't want to do something that's actually a composed scene.)
ReplyDeletewow, you've got a lot! I have a friend who did a very simple hand-pieced one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/emmylizzy/3695580518/in/set-72157621051627448
ReplyDeleteJust visiting a few of the bloggers commenting on Stitched in Color and wanted to say hi :)
Yeah, it's quite a horde isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely quilt your friend made - simple, but delicate and very pretty.
I've been doing the same - lots of people made comments there that have intrigued me, so I've got a ton of open tabs that I'm slowly making my way through reading.
Oooh!! I covet your fabric! LOL! I have been adding a piece here or there (when it doesn't cost me my firstborn child which I haven't had yet!). It's funny because I have been squirreling it away with no project in mind!
ReplyDeleteSeriously about the cost, eh? I was lucky to buy most of mine when it was $4-8/FQ (which... $4-5/FQ is regular price in Canada). But these days. Crazy prices!
ReplyDeleteI think I've committed myself to two different Mendocino projects, one of which won't hurt my stash much, since it'll only use one print I've got a lot of, but the other will definitely take a bite out of the stash. Which is scary, but... that's what it's there for, right? (Right?)
